Not directly one of my therapy areas, but a quick search has led me to this, which is a meta-analysis of lots of trials. This was published by The Lancet which is a decent starting point,

They looked at 31 eligible trials and summarised:-

"Influenza vaccines can provide moderate protection against virologically confirmed influenza, but such protection is greatly reduced or absent in some seasons. Evidence for protection in adults aged 65 years or older is lacking. LAIVs consistently show highest efficacy in young children (aged 6 months to 7 years). New vaccines with improved clinical efficacy and effectiveness are needed to further reduce influenza-related morbidity and mortality."

LAIV means Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine.

Clearly far from perfect, but better than nothing for many.

Have it done. A couple of winters ago I thought I wouldn't bother, then got the flu and was laid up for the best part of a week, so I vowed never to miss out again.

Know of any efficacy studies comparing vaccine pathways to natural exposure?

Flu clinics tend to be run much like a production line in order to get as many people through as quickly as possible, so the assumbtion would be that if you are there for it, then you probably have assesed the pros and cons beforehand, although I would imagine the vast majority have had it before.

Many would say that the injection site (upper arm) can be a bit incomfortable for a day or two, and you might get fairly mild cold-like symptoms for a day or two, but nothing like full-blown flu which is really unpleasant and will usually have people bed-bound for many days.

As has been mentioned before, the precise flu jab constituents change each year in line with what the most likely predicted strain that year will be. Do they always get this right? No. Do they get it right more often than they get it wrong? Yes.

Can't believe you're asking that. Have you never had a flu jab?

They inject you with Ribena which is well known to have brain-washing properties in order to control your every thought. Think North Korea bathing in a syringe of godly theocracy.

Or you know, maybe it's just a jab to stop people getting a nasty virus that has the potential to kill.

5G!

Re: Anyone had a flu jab?
No going to get it.

Those that have had the flu jab are you told what the side effects are or given a leaflet like in a medication box or do you go into the clinic and trust that whatever is in the injection will prevent you from getting the flu?

Fuck me Ron, do you have link to such claims?

Genuenily interested BTW, although to be fair this sounds so out of the ball park i want to see who made such claims and evidence or proof, even if whacky!!!!

Apparently the test is called a PCR test. I'm given to understand that it is very generic in its sampling, and is extremely unreliable.

And, to be fair, if road deaths are being added to the COVID stats, then why not good old flu?

It’s a good point, Sydders. A few hundred years ago the equivalent of Ronald0 would be blaming eccentric old cat-owning women for crop failures and frying them at the stake.

Human craziness and paranoia never really disappears.

"most of the cases of flu are being categorised as COVID"

You sure Ronnie? The test for COVID is for that specific virus, most tested here in Oz have flu like symptoms, hence the test, yet only a handfull (outside of Victoria!!) have been diagnosed with COVID and in Sydney alone they do around 15,000 tests a day.

Whats your source for this? Smells a bit "Witch-smeller Pursuivant" to me.....

"I had the shot at the beginning of winter here in Oz, no side effects, not sure it’s needed in the current social distancing world, flu was almost unheard of in Australia, and it’s spring now."

Unheard of because most of the cases of flu are being categorised as COVID.

Definitely worth it. Don’t believe the crap, medical science is very rarely wrong, whereas FB memes often are.

Had flu once I'm 53.Had a flu jab last year cost a fiver which I had at a chemist next to our doctors surgery whilst waiting for my gout prescription.
Had flu when I was about 25 felt absolutely terrible bed bound for three days.Remember having to get out the pit to have a piss and feeling freezing cold and like I was going over, having no appitite whatsoever.
Will have one this year if convenient again.
It's no suprise to me it can actually be the death of some elderly people.
